Lying ‘Prone’ at Home!! What is lying ‘Prone’?
when your doctor judges that lying on your front, flat over stomach with
chest down and back up for a period will help your breathing and increasing
oxygen levels.
Schedule your time for lying flat on your back as per your doctor’s advice. (35 -45
min if you don’t have much problem then change position and can repeat after
3to 4 hours). Add two pillows under abdomen or pelvis and upper chest, two pillows
under feet and one pillow under head to make this position more comfortable.
Why it is
asked patients to lie in the prone position?
Some patients
having Pneumonia, Respiratory distress and have areas at the bottom of the lungs
which are partially deflated. So, lying in prone position can improve ventilation
and which in turn open-up the deflated areas. This also improves breathlessness
and helps to get more oxygen into body by increasing ventilation.
Note: - Make
sure you follow instructions from your Physician and do things under their guidance.
